Terms, in plain English.
How this website can be used, and how quotes, changes, payment and ownership work when we work together.
Last updated 10 October 2026
This page covers two things: using this website, and how I work when you hire me. Your written quote sets out the details for your project, and if it says something different from this page, the quote wins.
Using this website
This website belongs to John Bell, a freelance graphic and web designer based in Birmingham, UK. By using it, you agree to these terms.
- The work shown. The designs, websites and images here are shown as examples of my work. Client names, logos and products belong to their owners. Some projects, such as GoSweet and Nic Pouches, show my own full designs and working builds. They aren’t the businesses’ live websites.
- Copying. Please don’t copy or reuse the designs, writing or images on this site without asking me first.
- Accuracy. I keep the site up to date, but it’s for general information. It isn’t an offer, and prices or timings are only fixed once I’ve sent you a quote.
- Other sites. Links to other websites are there to help. I’m not responsible for what’s on them.
Working together
Quotes
After we’ve talked about your project, I’ll send you a written quote with the price, what’s included and a rough timeline. The price is fixed for the work described. Work starts once you’ve accepted the quote and paid any deposit it asks for.
Changes and extra work
Each quote includes a set number of rounds of changes. If you’d like something that wasn’t in the quote, or more changes than it includes, I’ll tell you the cost before I do it, so there are no surprises.
What I need from you
You’ll provide the words, photos, logos and other content for your project, and confirm you have the right to use them. If content arrives late, the timeline may move to match.
Payment
Invoices are payable within the time stated on them. I may pause work, or hold off launching or handing over files, until overdue invoices are paid.
Who owns the work
Once you’ve paid in full, you own the final design and the content made for you. Fonts, stock photos, plugins and other third-party items stay under their own licences, which I’ll arrange in your name or tell you about. I may show the finished work in my portfolio unless you ask me not to.
Hosting and other services
Domains, hosting, email and similar services are run by other companies and are billed to you, either by them directly or passed on at cost. I’m not responsible for outages or changes on their side, but I’ll always help you sort problems out.
If plans change
You can stop a project at any time by letting me know in writing. You’ll pay for the work done up to that point, and I’ll hand over everything finished so far once that’s paid.
Liability
I take care with everything I make and test it before it goes live. If something goes wrong because of my work, I’ll put it right. My total liability for any project is limited to the amount you’ve paid me for it. Nothing here limits any rights you have by law that can’t be limited.
The law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales.
